Minutes for March 18, 2025

Call to Order, Mary Helan Turner

Brunswick Police Report, Interim Chief Angela Smith:

  • Community Meeting on March 3 —Representatives of Brunswick Policy, Glynn County Police, Glynn County Sheriff and School Resource Officers as well as juvenile court justices spoke.  Parents need to  monitor their children’s whereabouts, especially at night.
  • Police primary job is to maintain law & order. To this end they will enforce a curfew from 11 pm – 7 am for juveniles with “aggressive patrols.”
  • BPD and juvenile court sponsor several programs for at-risk youth.
  • Officer Macy provided crime stats for SoGlo for the period Feb. 1 – March 17.
  • Captain Wilson was asked about legality of go-karts and golf cars going at high speeds. Traffic laws do apply for all vehicles. There are also sound ordinances for overly loud exhausts or music.
Georgia Power Update, Dialo Cartwright, GA Power Area Manager:
  • Dialo created a spreadsheet with four SoGlo addresses and looked at their outages over a year. It did not appear that those addresses had outages that were not related to storms (whether in Glynn Country, or outside of the county). Hurricane Helene was the most damaging hurricane for Georgia Power, ever. The ice storm that hit Glynn County caused severe damage here.
  • GA Power is responsible for maintaining main lines. Service wires into home are the responsibility of the owner, so keep tree limbs trimmed on your property. If there are downed lines anywhere, do no approach.
  • He repeated how expensive the installation of underground lines would be for the City and residents.
  • If any HBNPA member has more specific questions about their property and outages, please email us at npa4@cityofbrunswick-ga.gov and we will forward your email to Dialo.
